Her real name is Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll. She was born on February 2nd, 1977, in Barranquilla, Colombia. By the age of 5, she made her debut in the entertainment world by taking part in an Arab dance contest. When she was 8, she composed her first song, "Tus gafas oscuras,” dedicated to her father, and by the age of 10, she took part in the TV show “Buscando Artista Infantil,” a contest she won the 3 times she participated in it. Later on, Sony offered her a recording contract and she recorded her first songs. In her second album, called “Peligro,” Shakira was still a teenager; however, with her following album, “Pies Descalzos,” she began to draw Colombia's attention, and she gradually gained fans in the rest of Latin America and the United States, with songs such as "Estoy aquí,” "Dónde estás corazón;” "Pies descalzos, sueños blancos" and "Un poco de amor.” Her following production, “Dónde Están los Ladrones?” strengthened her as a young, but serious, composer, capable of conveying the best poetry of her land through her songs, which was not inferior to her talent as a Latin pop singer. Songs such as "Ciega, sordomuda;” “Tú;” “Inevitable” y "Ojos Así,” with references to Alanis Morrisette and a pronounced Caribbean rhythm, conquered new markets. In 1999, she recorded her “Unplugged” album at MTV studios, dazzling the audience worldwide, with a stage show as sexy and captivating as her music. With the American audience at her feet, she launched "Laundry Service,” the first English-language record, which launched her to worldwide stardom. In 2005, she released her most recent record, “Fijación oral vol. 1.,” in which she sings in Spanish again after 7 years. The sequel is “Oral fixation Vol. 2,” this second part is in English, so that everyone will be satisfied.
