His real name is Enrique José Martín Morales. He was born on December 24th, 1971, in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He started his career as a male model and was part of the school choir. In 1984, he was chosen as a member of a teen group called Menudo, where he recorded several albums and a soap opera, “Para siempre amigos" (1986.) By the age of 19, he drifted away from Menudo to launch his solo career and he released an album called “Ricky Martin” in 2001. Songs such as “Fuego contra fuego;” “Dime que me quieres;” “Susana” and “Vuelo” were a big hit in Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Colombia, Puerto Rico and the United States. His following album, “Me amarás,” was not as successful as expected, so Ricky Martin decided to devote himself to acting. He worked in the TV series "Hospital General" and in the musical "Jesús, pasión y muerte.” He went back to the studios to record "A medio vivir,” an album that achieved gold and platinum status thanks to the hit "María.” His fourth album, "Vuelve,” sold more than 6 million copies, and made Ricky Martin one of the most successful Latin artists in the world. In 1998, he recorded the official French World Cup song, “La Copa de la Vida” and the song ranked among the best-sold albums in 30 countries. In 1999 he recorded his first album in English, called "Ricky Martin,” with the hit that became a huge success, “Livin’ la vida loca.” In 2000, he recorded “Sound loaded” –with less impact– and in 2001, a greatest hits collection called “La Historia.” After five years without recording in Spanish, Ricky Martin edited “Almas del silencio”in 2004, where he moved away from the frenzy Latin rhythm that made him famous worldwide and went back to his roots as a romantic ballad singer, with the contribution of acclaimed artists of the genre, such as Alejandro Sanz, Ricardo Arjona and Franco de Vita.
