Jerry Rivera annoyed with Shakira |
Lethe legendary artist Jerry Rivera is annoyed with Shakira because she used some verses of his song “Amores como el nuestro” in her song “Hips don’t lie” without permission from the producer or the arranger. |

 “I like Shakira, but I don’t know whether this is right, I understand they should have talked to the producer or the arranger, who holds the rights to this song,” Rivera said to Telefutura.
The introduction and the end of Shakira’s song “Hips Don’t Lie” (from her album Fijacion Oral Vol. 2 and which she sang with the Haitian hip hop artist Wyclef Jean) belong to the song “Amores como el nuestro” written by Omar Alfano.
The song was released in 1993 and was included in the album “Cuenta Conmigo”
Rivera admitted that though he has always admired Shakira, he did not like the song, “she’s done better things.”
The salsa artist, who has sold more than 5 million copies, said he met with the author of “Cuenta Conmigo” but has not said anything so far because using the song without permission opens the way for a lawsuit.
Shakira won many Billboard Latin Music Awards 2006 during a ceremony at the Casino Seminole at Hard Rock Café in Miami.
The pop superstar was awarded for Pop Album of the Year for a Woman with Fijación Oral Vol 1; Hot Latin Song, Vocal Duet of the Year ; Hot Latin Song, Song of the Year y and Latin Pop Airplay Song of the Year with “La tortura”.
“This award is more than just mine, you’ll be bringing it home Alejandro, because without him, I would’ve have gotten this far,” expressed Shakira when receiving the award.
“I’ve learned so much from you, you’ve nurtured me, inspired me, I love you,” the singer declared, who also was the winner in the new category, Latin Ringtone of the Year for the song.
Puerto Rican Daddy Yankee ended up the big loser of the night. The singer of “Lo que pasó, pasó” was the favorite of the night with a record 10 nominations, though he only walked away with 3 awards: Top Latin Album, Artist of the Year and Reggaeton Album of the Year for the CD Barrio Fino: En Directo.
At the 2006 Billboard Award Ceremony, the Dominican Republic was well represented, with Andy Andy taking home 3 awards: Tropical Album of the Year, for a Man with Ironía; he also won another prize in this category, Tropical Album of the Year, Next Generation for the same CD and Tropical Song of the Year for a Man with “Ironía.”
The Mexican group, RBD raised high their 3 awards; the rebels took away awards in Best Pop Album of the Year, Group Duet for their first CD, Rebelde, Pop Album of the Year, Next Generation with the same album and a very special award given by the audience and voted over the internet.
The Colombian singer, Juanes, prevailed with his three awards, victorious in the categories Hot Latin Song Artist of the Year, Latin Pop Song Airplay of the Year for a Man with “La Camisa Negra” and Composer of the Year.
Alejandro Sanz, thanks to the duet he did with Colombian singer Shakira on the song “La Tortura” walked away with three Billboard Awards for Hot Latin Song Vocal Duet of the Year, Hot Latin Song, Song of the Year and Latin Pop Song Airplay of the Year, Duet or Group with “La Tortura.”.
