Miranda! and Babasónicos closed out a concert full of hits |
Sunday May 21, some of the most successful Argentine bands participated in the second year of the band festival organized by radio station “Top 40" (formerly FM Hit). |
|
|
The place of choice was the Pepsi Music Stadium, attended by some 5,000 people to see (and of course listen to) many of their favorite groups in a show flooded with hits and quick and to the point sets (three or four songs) put on by each group that stepped foot onstage: Migue García, Fabiana Cantilo, Emmanuel Horvilleur, the Mexicans from Belanova, Los Tipitos, Árbol, Turf, Coti Sorokin, La Portuaria, Miranda! and Babasónicos were the chosen names at the radio’s festivities.
Neither Migue García nor Fabiana Cantilo could make the winter night any hotter than it already was. Then came Emmanuel Horvilleur and Belanova’s sets. Former member of Illia Kuryaki and The Valderramas unleashed all they had on the stadium’s stage, infecting the audience with their energy and excitement. While on the other hand the line-up led by singer Denisse passed through almost unnoticed by the audience.
It was necessary to wait for Turf for the real show to begin: “No se llama amor,” “Magia blanca” and “Loco un poco” erupted the first spectator explosion, in demand of an encore, which they ended up cashing in on in full. Joaquín Levinton and company obliged with a rocking cover of “Yo no me quiero casar…¿y usted?” to everyone’s pleasure. Next arrived Coti with four of their best known songs, including their hit, “Antes que ver el sol.”
La Portuaria contributed their share of quality and Baby offered a cut from their new CD Río 10.000 KM and “Llévame a lo hondo,” a song included on the solo record released by Diego Frenkel in 1996.
Next came Arbol’s turn tolet out their potent uncompromised, hard-hitting show, causing the whole audience to erupt. "Prejuicios,” “Pequeños sueños,” “El fantasma” and “Trenes, aviones y camiones” were the “guilty” instigators of the craze unleashed by the group.
Miranda! came out next and stormed the stage with “Yo te diré,” “Traición” (with a tribute to Argentine comic genius Jorge Porcel) “El profe” and “Don,” as the chosen hits to get the audience up and dancing.
Babasónicos, armed their hit combo with two songs from Anoche (“Carismático” and “Yegua”) and two others from Infame (“Irresponsables” and “Putita”) and withdrew from the stage, leaving them still craving more.
