Julio Voltio, his evidence rejected |
The news is not all good for the Puerto Rican rapper, Julio Voltio: Luis Guillermo Zambrana, the district attorney of Mayagüez, rejected that the two police officers that testified in the case against him, had lied during the trial, and the artist was found guilty of drug possession. |

Zambrana rejected the arguments that Voltio filed before the Court of Special Investigations, where he filed a claim to investigate Juan Vargas and Pedro Santiago, the officers responsible for arresting the reggaeton singer.
Germán Brau Ramírez, the judge assigned to evaluate the evidence against the rapper, his soundman and one of his dancers, found them guilty in the incident in which various agents in Mayagüez found drugs in their vehicle, after a show at a bar in that city.
Early in June, Brau Ramírez declared the artist and the two people with him guilty and set the judgment date for this Friday.
Last week, Voltio said that he has spent nearly $200,000 on lawyers, thanks to this case against him for the violation of controlled substances laws.
The artist explained that he has chosen to "defend his innocence," and that is why the case went to the Court of Special Investigations of the Justice Department.
In this court, Voltio brought a criminal complaint against Juan Vargas Quintana and Pedro Santiago Casiano, the agents who arrested him. He accused them of committing detriment against him.
Accompanied by the dancer Omar Martínez, and the DJ René Quiñones, who were also accused in the case, the rapper met with the special assistant of the secretary of Justice, Mary Franco, to plead that what they are doing to him “is wrong, because they are accusing me of crimes I did not commit.”
For Voltio, other episodes of his life are about persecution against Latin rappers.
“Police agents violated their civil rights, their dignity and privacy, in an inappropriate way,” Voltio’s lawyer Ernie Cabán Santiago said months ago, when the rapper had an incident with the police.
The incident started one day when the singer was parked outside the White Lion record store in Ocean Park and some unidentified agents searched him.
When they were questioned by the press, the officers assured that they had received an anonymous call that said that the artist had a weapon. When they did not find a weapon, the agents imposed him with a traffic fine
“First we will contest the $25 traffic fine imposed on Voltio, since they did not have the reason or the right to demand his driver’s license and registration,” the lawyer said.
“They yelled at me and made me get out of the car. They searched me and wanted to search the car to look for a gun that I did not have,” the artist said.
