Improvisation at the helm (at least, of Argentine Folk Music)

Alongside other everlasting figures like Mercedes Sosa, the wonderful Liliana Herrero, and the superb Chango Spasiuk, this trio made up of Fabián Docabo on guitar and vocals, Sebastián Dorso on piano and vocals and Pablo Ubierna on double bass and vocals, maintains its approach: exploring a conservative genre and daring to set out on the path of improvisation with lots of balance and an enviable musicals sense.
The trio adopts pieces composed by the likes of Gustavo Cuchi Leguizamón, Ariel Ramírez, and Peteco Carabajal, but their renditions are like a breath of fresh air and offer a new glance that is needed, surprising, and delicate.
Last Friday, September 1, at 10 pm, Mezcal gave a performance within the framework of the series called “Bohemia,” which took place at Rincón de Arte –Escuela Intergral de Danzas Argentinas, located at 1768 Moreno St. in Buenos Aires.
A beautiful night that became more than an opportunity to see this band in action, which played an irresistible repertoire with many of the songs from their latest album titled “Cosas que pasan,” released last year by Unión de Músicos Independientes (UMI) of Argentina.
“Cartas de amor que se queman,” “Zamba soltera,” “Coplas del sol,” and “Juan del monte” are some of the best songs on this album.
