Works Begin on Juanes’ Park |

Earlier this week, works began on the recreational park named after the popular Colombian singer Juanes, located in his home town of Medellín, in north-west Colombia.
According to the artist, the aim of this initiative is to bring local kids and sports together, and not drugs.
“The only way of overcoming inequality is through things like this, social inclusion, we have to bring kids and sports together,” said the 33 year old artist.
Juanes attended the ceremony with his two young daughters, Luna and Paloma.
“I brought my family because you have no idea how much this means to us,” added the 12 time Latin Grammy winner.
The total cost of this park, called Juanes de la Paz, will be 10.6 billion pesos, the equivalent of four million dollars, which will be financed in part by the government of Medellín, as announced by Mayor Sergio Fajardo.
The 68 thousand square meter park is scheduled to be completed in May in the neighborhood of Castilla, one of the areas most affected by drug trafficking in Medellín.
It is worth noting that a few months ago, a selection of Latin artists, headed by Juanes, decided to get together at the Gibson Amphitheater.
The benefit concert called, “Colombia sin minas” featured artists like Laura Pausini, Juan Luis Guerra, Alejandro Sanz, and Carlos Vives, to name a few.
Artists rendered songs with mostly everyday themes rather than romantic ones, and Juanes did not sing “Fíjate bien,” a song about the peril of anti-personnel landmines.
Images showed child victims of anti-personnel landmines in Colombia, like John, a four-year-old boy from Medellín who lost part of his left leg in an explosion.
“I’m having some trouble with the prosthesis because I destroy footballs and prosthesis too,” the child said.
The artists, including host Salma Hayek, donated their time to take part in this charity concert, whose proceeds went to landmine victims.
The artists admitted that the proceeds will not be enough to solve the problem of land mines, however, Alejandro Sanz said that it was important to “raise awareness.”
